The Argentine Republic
is a country of the New World that has developed its
viticultural industry at great lengths. Its geographical
location at the extreme south of the American continent
allows it to present a great diversity of climates,
reliefs and soils. In the four cardinal points we
find matchless beauties, different among them, giving
the country an extraordinary wealth.
The best areas for the cultivation of the vine
are found in the West, at the foot of the Andes,
where the viticulture is favored by the climate
of semidesert, with dry winter season and warm summers
that provide suitable temperatures and a great number
of hours of sun received by the plant during the
whole year. Consequently, these areas rely on the
optimum conditions for the vine to perfectly complete
its vegetative cycle and obtain quality fruits and
wines that are distinguished all over the world.
Varieties
In the Argentine stocks could be differentiated
two types of these stocks: Creole stocks and European
stocks
Creole Stocks
They are known in Southamerica since the beginning
of the viticulture, with great diversity of shapes
and types. Their reproduction was done through seeds,
acquiring characteristic features without connection
to European stocks. These are vigorous stocks, of
abundant production and are normally destined for
inferior quality wines, concentrated must or in-fresh
consumption.

European Stocks
They came with the conquerors, through the Cuzco
they entered Chile; and from there toward the Argentina
through Humahuaca Stream to Santiago del Estero.
These were specimens of “Vitis vinífera”
that, favored with the optimum conditions of the
climate and the soil, these found in the Argentine,
especially in the provinces of Mendoza and San Juan,
the more convenient conditions for their development.
