Chardonnay
This is a variety of good vigor and median productivity,
slightly sensitive to the “botrytis”.
This stock is from first period, produces harmonic
quality wine, subtly perfumed and of clear freshness.
This variety exists in our country since more than
100 years, being in all the viticultural areas,
from Cafayate to Río Negro. Among the enologists
there exists the anxiety over exploiting all the
potential of the stock and reach the aristocracy
of the great world wines.
Chenin
Originaly comes from the River Loire Valley, in
France, the Chenin is the fine white variety cultivated
most in our country after the Torrontes and the
Chardonnay. The majority of the Chenin wines are
used for blends, where they contribute their good
acidity and their pleasant aroma. It develops very
well in all the regions, highlighting the wines
obtained in San Rafael, Mendoza. Its greatest virtue
responds to its capacity to provide freshness and
elegance for the cuts. On the other hand, its biggest
defect is its limited prestige at commercial level
and its little capacity for positive evolution in
time.
Riesling
Long since this variety was cultivated in the Rhin
Valley in the Roman period. It offers very softly
fruity wines, being the first white varietals that
were produced in our country. Through this there
are obtained very high-quality and characteristic
bouquet wines. In our area there exists the authentic
variety, thought they are few the vineyards that
present high varietal purity, creating confusion
due to the ignorance of some viticulturists.
This name is used to designate other stocks like
Sauvignon and Tocai Friulano.
Sauvignon Blanc
This is a high-quality and average production stock.
This name is also used to designate different varieties
like Semillon, Tocai Friulano and Chenin, from which
it is more difficult to separate it for someone
that is not a good expert of varieties. Its wines
are delicate and have a characteristic bouquet,
being a variety of first period.
Semillón
This is a vigorous and fairly productive variety;
and of early ripening. It produces wines of characteristic
quality, bouquet and taste, very sensitive to the
botrytis, this is why its growing has moved back
instead of increasing. Some wineries use it as varietal
in young and fresh wines.
Ungi Blanc
This is an Italian stock known in the south of
France as Saint Emisión. Due to its noticeable
acidity it is used for blends, especially for the
Argentine sparkling wines. It is of good vigor and
productivity, of late sprouting and ripening. It
produces quality wines of characteristic bouquet.
